Week 1

So today is the second day of my first week at CQU on campus. I’ve had a busy last week getting myself ready to study. For me it was all about planning and making sure I’m ready. I’ve set my office up at home, labelled my files and note books for each subject, checked I have all my stationery but more importantly for me is put together a schedule for the week to ensure that I have enough time to study, and to also give myself time to relax and get to the gym (this isn’t relaxing for me!). Last year when I was studying in the UK, the job I worked was shifts, not only shifts but shifts that changed every week and made it hard for me to stick to routine and the schedule that I put together. I don’t like not being organised, as much as I will admit i have ‘winged it’ in the past, moving forward, I don’t want to put myself in this position again. I’ve started saying no to people, which I do find hard, but I have to put myself and my future first. We can catch up in 12 weeks when term 1 is all done and dusted right? I’ve also done a list of deadlines to keep me on track, I don’t want to be doing any last minute cramming as I know when I do, it doesn’t stay in. These are both on the wall above my desk at eye level for easy referencing and so I (hopefully!) don’t miss anything.

I also took time out at the weekend to catch up with friends that have been here for over 7 years and live in Toowoomba. We had a great weekend on the Gold Coast, lots of walking along the beach, a few beers and generally relaxing! I left feeling refreshed and ready for the challenge of term 1.

Let’s do this!!!!!

Orientation time….

So today I had to attend orientation being an international student, it’s part of my visa conditions.

I didn’t sleep well last night, not sure if that’s because of my nerves for today, or the fact I got 11 mosquito bites on Sunday and they are rather itchy!!

Although I’ve done this before, and I’d been to campus a few times so I knew where I was going, I still had that knot in my stomach until I got to level 6 (where the orientation was taking place). I immediately felt at ease, the staff where so helpful, I got talking to a fellow student in front of me in the queue for registration and we discussed where we were from, what course we were studying, the usual small talk for new uni students.

The day went well, I learnt more about moodle and the CQU site and the fab services available on campus (level 7!!). I managed to scavenge 6 free pens from the stalls at lunch time and even touched a baby croc!! I can truly say that I really am looking forward to starting my studies fully next week and being part of the CQU experience.

So who am I?

Hello!! And thanks for taking the time to read my blog.

So this is my first post on my blog, something that I am completely new to, but am excited to get used to!

So who am I?

I’m about to start my first year at Central Queensland University on the Brisbane campus studying a Bachelor of Accounting degree. I have already studied back home in the UK for a year and have brought with me 24 credit points. In my previous career, accounting, both management and financial were a big part of my job and something I really enjoyed so I wanted to build my next career around this, hence why the Accounting degree.

Out of university, currently I’m not working, but am job hunting, and live with my husband Ian in Mango Hill about 30 kms north of the city. In my spare time I love getting out and about whether it be on land on foot or in our 4×4 off roading, or in the water, I love to snorkel, and you can’t get better snorkelling than the Barrier Reef. I like to keep busy, you only get one shot at this thing called life so don’t waste it, well that’s my motto.

The picture below is of me and my husband, just getting on the plane to start our new adventure, like starting this blog is another adventure for me!

Until next time
